The arts are responsible for a bold revitalization in San Antonio and cities throughout the U.S. and the next mayor of San Antonio must be interested in investing in the arts community to continue to stimulate the city and its economy. Theatre For Change will partner with The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and KSAT-12 to host mayoral candidates for Change the Vote, a town hall focused on positioning arts as an economic engine, on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tobin’s H-E-B Performance Hall. KSAT- 12, San Antonio’s ABC affiliate station, will live stream the event on www.ksat.com.
San Antonio arts are deeply rooted in tradition, but now they must play a part in the city’s evolution. Change the Vote is about discovering how arts can contribute to the revitalization of San Antonio. Artists and arts organizations will use Change the Vote as an opportunity to hear from and be heard by mayoral candidates. While the majority of mayoral campaigns have focused on political issues, the arts community has little information about candidates’ plans for the arts in San Antonio. Change the Vote will aid the arts community in identifying the candidate who will best advocate for the future of arts in San Antonio.
Candidates Tommy Adkisson, Paul Martinez, Ivy Taylor, Leticia Van de Putte, and Mike Villarreal have confirmed they will attend Change the Vote and will be available to answer questions from the arts community. The discussion will be moderated by veteran KSAT reporter Tim Gerber and Shannon Ivey, Theatre For Change president and Texas Lutheran University assistant professor of dramatic media, while Theatre For Change board members field questions from the audience. Questions may be submitted prior to the event through the Theatre For Change website at theatreforchange.org.
An invite-only, VIP reception will begin at 6 p.m. in the McCombs Grand Lobby. Concessions will be available for purchase. The town hall discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the H-E-B Performance Hall. This event is free and open to the public, however, tickets are required. Tickets may be reserved through the Tobi Box Office at tobi.tobincenter.org.
